Sean & Jax Heuman of Bone Daddy Blade WerX – The Knife Junkie Podcast (Episode 328)
Sean and Jax Heumann of Bone Daddy Blade WerX join Bob “The Knife Junkie” DeMarco on episode 328 of The Knife Junkie Podcast.
While pursuing his “design unicorn” Sean observed the “big knife vs. camp axe” debate raging in the forums and thought of a third option — this became the Axxis. It became the project mission to see how modern technology could improve upon a stone age tool design.
A realtor in Austin, TX, Sean met and was inspired by his wife, Jax, a survivalist at heart who embraced his dream of making the Axxis a reality. The couple gave up the security of their careers and lighted out for the wilderness of the Rockies to make BDBW happen. In March 2020 they launched a Kickstarter, and though the pandemic was breathing down their neck, they overshot their funding goal by 37%.
The Axxis hand ax was inspired by ancient minimalist survival tools that were mounted in various ways (as a knife, spear, adze, etc.).
At the core of the Bone Daddy Blade WerX mission are minimalism, utility and design innovation, and hope to inspire the preservation and accessibility of nature. “Do more with less” as a core belief inspires BDBW to create skeletonized survival tools that reduce weight while increasing functionality.

It was fun meeting and talking with the Huemann family (Sean, Jax and baby Connor) about their company Bone Daddy Blade WerX and the very successful Axxis. Share on X
